ARLINGTON, Texas — Alec Burleson hit his first pitch for a home run in the eighth inning and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Texas Rangers 1-0 on Wednesday night, snapping Marcus Semien’s 25-game hitting streak.
Siemian went 0-for-4 this season to end the longest such streak in the majors and the longest by an infielder in his career.
It was the second-best streak in club history behind Gabe Kapler’s 28-hit game in 2000.
St. Louis snapped its own five-game losing streak and ended the Rangers’ five-game losing streak.
Jordan Hicks (1-3) pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the win, and Ryan Helsley finished with seven saves in 11 chances.
John Gray (6-2) pitched his second career complete game but took the loss to end a six-game hitting streak. He allowed four hits, walked once and had a year-high 12 strikeouts.
For the Cardinals, Venezuelan Willson Contreras is 3-0.
