“Space, Time and Memory,” the exhibition that honors David Perspective

The exhibition will feature around 35 works by artist David Manzoor, focusing mainly on his later years of workThe painter’s first solo exhibition was at the National Gallery in 1953 and this exhibition is part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of his artistic career.

David Perspective (born 1929) He is the last living painter born in the 1920s, and the only survivor of a generation of great art references such as Alejandro Obregon, Enrique Grau, Edgar Negrete and Eduardo Ramírez Villamizar. He taught at the Art Students League of New York, at the Pratt Institute, and was a two-time Guggenheim Fellow. In recent years he has been honored by the President of Colombia with the Grand Cross of the Order of Boyaca and awarded by King Felipe VI of Spain the Order of Isabel la Católica.

“Painter, engraver and illustrator, interested in various artistic and non-artistic disciplines: theatre, music, art history, civilization, photography, literature and religion (Catholic, studying with the Claret Fathers), astronomy (interested in Jules Verne, studying at the Chicago Institute of Science), worked as a head teacher in art education workshops in which he trained several generations of artists, ”confirms, art critic, art curator and historian Belgica Rodriguez, that wrote the text for the catalog of the aforementioned exhibition.

Maestro Manzor comments: “It is an honor for me to end this cycle of exhibition in Cartagena de Indias and in the museum that great professors and friends helped to found. I am also grateful and pay tribute to the decades-long work of Yolanda Bobo de Mogollon in front of MAMC. I hope the gallery will be visited by young people who are interested in art or who want to start a career as artists so that they can see firsthand and learn from my successes and mistakes.”

Finally, he added, “I’m approaching 94 But I have the energy to paint as if I were 20 years old and the reception my work has had in the places it has visited and which it has always been in Cartagena motivates me to keep going.“.

The exhibition will begin on Thursday, June 1 at 7pm and will be opened by teacher David Manzoor. It will be open to the public until August 1, 2023.
