If you get a “hype” and are in the US, you can get a “green card” right away

Since yesterday, May 6, bit by bit, hundreds of Cubans have been checking their status on the State Department website for the visa lottery, or “bombo” as Cubans call it, and some have had “good news,” but that’s changing. They were already in the North Country as a result of a wave of migration along the southern border.

Telemundo 51 reporter Alexis Boentes shared this kind of experience on his Facebook profile and pointed out a very important piece of information that few people know. “Humane parole” is particularly important for Cuban immigrants with irregular or irregular entry permits.

“They wrote me this:” Things in life, I got the hype, but I’m already in America. If this is your case, you can be regularized without leaving the country. If he had not waited a year and a day, he would have been on humanitarian parole. If you have I220A, worry!” the reporter wrote in his post Facebook profile.

“Congratulations to today’s reviewers and…surprise! They got the hype!”, he added. But what do US immigration officials say about this? Let’s check.

“Hype” results for the United States

The Department of States website asks, “If I am in the United States and elected, can I adjust my status with USCIS?” To the question they point out the following.

“Yes, if you are eligible to adjust status under the terms of Section 245 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), you can apply to USCIS for adjustment of status for permanent residency,” they add.

They explain that since your eligibility for the DV-2024 program expires by September 30, 2024, you need to make sure that USCIS can complete the processing of your case, including processing foreign applications for your spouse or children under the age of 21.

“The State Department will not approve a visa number or adjustment of status for the DV-2024 program after midnight EDT on September 30, 2024,” they add.

Finally, from the US they warn, “We encourage those selected to apply for visas as soon as possible, as numbers qualify once they reach their standards in the program.”
