The Eighth Circuit Judge decided today to send San Salvador’s former mayor Ernesto Muyshond and two former municipal employees to trial for allegedly misappropriating $275,145.31 to commune employees.
Muyshond, who ruled San Salvador from 2018 to 2021, will remain in prison on the judge’s decision. The other defendants are Francisco José Rivera and Fernando Heriberto Portillo. The latter will continue in temporary custody.
The prosecutor’s office accuses the three defendants of misappropriation or embezzlement or violation of tax sentiments and obligations.
“Former Mayor of San Salvador Ernesto Muyshond and two former municipal employees have been sent to trial for misappropriating $275,145.31 in labor withholding dollars from municipal employees from June to December 2020,” the prosecutor’s office described.
During the virtual hearing, Muyshondt cited health issues, which the judge granted a break.
