Discovery launched its new streaming service Discovery + in the US on Monday, hoping to cut the unwritten corner of an already crowded broadcast space.

Discovery +, which was previously launched in several countries, calls itself a “clearly not imaginary subscription service”. Its library has more than 55,000 episodes of over 2,500 TV shows, including HGTV, Food Network, Animal Planet, DLC, ID and more. It will also host original and exclusive series such as “Planet Earth” on the BBC.

Advertising support on this service is $ 4.99 per month (similar to the NBCUniversal Peacock Premium Layer with Ads) and the non-ad Monthly Layer is $ 6.99 (similar to Disney +). It works with Verizon to offer 55 million customers up to 12 months of Discovery + for free depending on their plan. Other competitors include AT&T’s HBO Max, which costs 99 14.99 a month, and Netflix, whose standard show is 99 13.99 in the US.

Service Can stream Application of Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Rogue and Samsung with mobile devices, Internet and game consoles.

“Our number one goal is to have every platform in the United States available,” David Jaslow, chairman and CEO of Discovery, told CNBC’s Squaw Alley on Monday.

He said he believes the service is different from its current counterparts.

“We think we’re left the rest of the team fighting the sequels and scenes, but we have a great path in the United States and around the world, and we have the best content that people want: ’90. Opera Winfrey, Fancy Chip and Jonah Keynes,” we We are very different. ”

According to him, it complements the existing popular services.

“We’m a great partner for Disney and Netflix,” he said. “If you have Disney or Netflix, you have two great products, but we’re very different and we go well with them.”

Jaslow did not share his predictions about how much the company expects subscribers to grow next year.

“We think … we could be great,” he said. “It simply came to our notice then. We have a lot of resources behind it and we are going to report our numbers in the next few quarters and then make some big investment. ”
