Yordon Alvarez has had a great start to the season, and he confirmed it with another home run this Monday.
This April 3, the Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers begin a three-game series at Minute Maid Park. The visitors took a four-run lead in the top of the fifth, but a four-run rally in the bottom of the inning tied the action.
The inning began with a walk by Mauricio Duban and a single off the bat of right fielder Martin Maldonado. First the Honduran got into Dubon’s feet after a controversial power out on the Puerto Rican with Jeremy Pena rolling.
It was Alex Bregman’s turn, and he still hadn’t found a bat, although this time he was hit by a pitch and reached first base. Yordan Alvarez batted two bases and scored four points for the Tigers.
Faced with Cuban reliever Jose Cisnero. He started with a fastball and the Astros outfielder fouled him. He then insisted on two changes. Big mistake.
Yordon singled to center and sent the ball over the fence in right-center field. The ball traveled 435 feet. This is his 2nd year. He hit another 442-foot home run on Opening Day. In doing so, Alvarez became the first batter of the season with more than one home run to exceed 430 feet.
He reached 100 in a lifetime and became the 17th Cuban in MLB to complete the triple-double. He did it in 372 games, the fewest in a Houston Astros franchise. He widely surpassed the previous mark for a legend like Lance Bergman (452 games).
