Former President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff (2011-2016) was selected as New Chairman of BRICS Development BankA forum that will integrate Brazil with Russia, India, China and South Africa, with a mandate until 2025, the company said this Friday.
“On March 24, 2023, the NBD (New Development Bank) Board of Governors unanimously elected Rousseff as the head of the bank, effective immediately,” the organization said in a statement.
Rousseff, her political godfather and current Brazilian head of state, was nominated for the post. Luis Inacio Lula da SilvaIn power since January 1.

The Shanghai-based NBD was created in 2014 when Rousseff took charge of the Brazilian presidency, which he succeeded Lula in 2011 and held until he was removed by Congress in 2016 for mismanagement of the budget amid a political investigation.
Rousseff will replace the Brazilian diplomat as head of the BRICS Development Bank Marcos Prado TroyjoInaugurated in 2020 and his term ends in 2025, it will now be completed by the former Brazilian president.
Promoted by former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, Prado Troijo resigned from his position on March 10, at which time a new selection process within the financial institution began.
