(CNN) — Demi Moore has shared a moving message dedicated to her ex-husband Bruce Willis on the actor’s first birthday since he was diagnosed with dementia.

Moore and Willis were married from 1987 to 2000 and have three daughters: Rumer, Scout and Tallulah.

On Sunday, the Hollywood actress shared a glimpse of the “Die Hard” actor’s 68th birthday celebration with her followers, posting an Instagram video showing Willis Moore enjoying the day with his now-wife Emma. Heming Willis, his daughters and other family members.

“Happy birthday, BW! We’re so happy to celebrate you today,” Moore wrote in the message alongside the video, in which Willis’ relatives sang “Happy Birthday” to the retired actor. “I love you and I love our family. Thank you all for the love and well wishes, we all feel it.”

After joining in the chant, the “Die Hard” star is seen blowing out the candles on her birthday cake.

A few hours ago, Hemming Willis posted a message about what it takes to care for someone living with dementia, revealing that she felt pain and sadness. The couple married in 2009 and have two daughters, Mabel and Evelyn.

“Sometimes in our lives, we have to put on our big girl pants and do it, and that’s what I’m doing,” she said in the short video. “But I have moments of sadness every day, pain every day and I feel it on his birthday.”

Last month, Willis’ family announced that his speech disorder, aphasia, had progressed to a form of dementia called frontotemporal dementia.

“Currently, there are no cures for the disease, and we believe this may change in the coming years,” they said in a message shared online. “As Bruce’s condition progresses, we hope the media will focus on shedding light on this disease that needs more awareness and research.”

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, frontotemporal dementia “refers to a group of disorders caused by the progressive loss of nerve cells in the brain’s frontal lobes (the areas behind the forehead) or its temporal lobes.” These areas of the brain are generally associated with personality, behavior and language.
