These Scientific Publication Days are aimed at high school students in the science branch and are organized by the Higher School of Experimental Sciences and Technology (ESCET) and the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC + I).

The main objective of “Science à la carte” is to promote scientific and technological knowledge and vocation among young people in the first and second year of secondary school in the science method, before taking the step to university education.
The activities scheduled for the sixth session of these conferences will be held on March 13, 14 and 15 at the URJC campus in Mostoles. ESCET’s scientific community will show different areas of knowledge taught in the school and pre-university students will be able to see first-hand the work of scientists and their workspaces.
Our aim with these activities is to introduce students who are close to deciding their careers to different options in the field of science and to discover what can be done in research. We also want them to get to know our university’s facilities and part of the faculty who would teach them if they studied at URJC,” says Pilar Martínez Hidalgo, Conference Coordinator and Deputy Director of Communications, Promotion and Sustainability Development at ESCET.
The format of these conferences is designed to stimulate and encourage youth participation. In this sense, the students have the possibility of choosing “a la carte” the activities which, due to their content, are more attractive and useful for their training.
Scientific experiences and challenges
During the scheduled three days, 19 dynamic and participatory activities will be carried out where the knowledge of the attendees will be tested. Students will be able to participate in workshops, demos and experiments, escape room and visits to laboratories to learn about the different lines of research being developed at URJC. “This year, the proposals for activities are very diverse and from all fields of knowledge of ESCET. The participating teachers have prepared entertaining and educational activities consisting of observing organisms in different environments and their uses, working on renewable energy or recycling, researching nanomaterials or learning about food from A different perspective, among others,” details the conference coordinator. .
“Science à la carte” is part of the schedule of events to promote scientific culture implemented by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Innovation and Transfer through the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC + I). The realization of these activities is made possible by advocating for assistance in promoting scientific, technological and innovative culture Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) – Ministry of Science and Innovation. In addition, this initiative is part of the activities School researchers Within the European Researchers’ Night (MADRIDNIGHT) project, a consortium coordinated by the madri + dy foundation and funded by the European Union within the Horizon Europe programme, under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Proceedings (with grant agreement No. 101061343).
