Tomorrow (Christmas Eve): Scattered light rain is likely in the morning as temperatures rise in the 50s. In the afternoon, especially in the district and west of Interstate 95 the rain should become steady and heavy for some of us. Winds from the south and southeast, blowing at 30 mph in the afternoon, will be close to 60 or in the 60s. Confidence: Medium
Tomorrow night: The evening may begin with heavy rain centered east of DC and I-95. Most of us will then see heavy storms moving from west to east in the evening, especially from 10pm to 2am which have the potential to create some flooding and damaging winds. There is even a small chance of a hurricane. The rain should go east overnight, with a total of 0.75 to two inches of rain, and it will end in wet snow or sleet (no accumulation expected).
Overnight winds can come from behind a cold front to the west, blowing at speeds of 40 to 50 mph at a time, clearing the sky at dawn, with temperatures dropping from the upper 20s to the mid-30s until the morning. Confidence: Medium High
A look ahead
Get some sun and bone cooling ready Christmas Day. We have temperatures rising in the 30s, with winds blowing at 15 to 20 mph from the west and up to 30 mph. That means the air cools only in teens and 20s. I was able to see a few snowfalls as well.
