This Thursday, at 9:00 pm, Logroño City Council’s reading point La Rosaleda begins a new initiative called “Queili”, which consists of an open meeting so that anyone can come and tell a story, story, poem or song. Meetings are held on the first and third Thursday of every month.
The word kweli comes from the Irish word “cèilidh” which initially referred to a storytelling gathering, and it also identifies a social gathering in which traditional Scottish Gaelic folklore music is played and danced. With this philosophy, the first “queili” in Spain began in the simple, led by Pablo Albo, and now it is installed in Logroño in La Rosalida.
The rules of these meetings are very simple: the person who wants to tell a story has eight minutes to carry out his story, while the rest listen to the narration and at the end thank the intervention. Anyone can participate, they just have to wait their turn.
La Queili de Logroño will drink from oral tradition, toast with words, sing novels new and old and get drunk in stories and poems. You can participate as a listener and also as a narrator. The only premise is that it will not be read out loud, but will be told, without assessing how each person does it, because it is not a contest but a meeting place where you can enjoy the oldest pleasure in the world, the act of telling. And listen to the stories.
