Ecuador and Japan Both teams were held to a 0-0 draw in a friendly in Dusseldorf, Germany on Tuesday as they look to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Enner Valencia missed a penalty on 82 minutes. His mid-high cross forehand was blocked by goalkeeper Daniel Schmidt.

Defender Shogo Taniguchi’s foul on striker Michael Estrada resulted in the maximum penalty.

Both actors qualified ahead of the ecumenical event despite the scoreless draw at the Mercure Spiel-Arena. They encouraged an active game, projecting down the sides and not letting themselves be pulled by the competitor, but rather on their own initiative.

Ecuador pressed, but gave Schmidt little respite early on and took space from Estrada.

The defensive wall of the ‘Blue Samurai’ forced Ecuadorian midfielders Angel Mena and Romario Ibarra to try to draw attacks, with danger coming from the second quarter of the hour.

Around 40 minutes in, ‘Tri’s defender Pervis Estupinan was saved by a big mistake. A poor clearance in the middle of the candle area leaves Kyoko Furuhashi with a served ball to finish. Goalkeeper Hernan Calindez’s reaction drowned out the cries of the Japanese goal.

Not letting up the pressure, the South Americans staged more shots on goal.

They staggered in Schmidt’s space, helped by ‘San Paulo’ on 43 runs. A quick clearance from Galindes reached Ibarra, who fired the ball across and into the vertical left.

In the end, the Ecuadorians again showed their lack of conversion power as they did in the Spanish city of Murcia last Friday, where they drew 0-0 with Saudi Arabia as part of their latest training tour.

On the same day, the ‘Blue Samurai’ beat the USA 2-0 in Dusseldorf.

Ecuador fielded Byrne Castillo, who has been accused of falsifying his nationality, for which relegation Chile and Peru failed to get FIFA to earn Ecuador’s points in the South American qualifiers, which would have excluded him from the Qatar tournament.

Japan, making its seventh appearance at the ecumenical soccer tournament, was drawn in Group E of the World Cup alongside Germany, Spain and Costa Rica.

“The party will do a lot to face what that introduction will be,” said Francisco Egas, president of the FEF.

For its fourth World Cup trip, Ecuador is part of Group A along with Qatar, with whom it will play in the opening game of the tournament on November 20. The main ones include Senegal and the Netherlands.

After reaching the fourth and last direct ticket to Qatar 2022 from South America, the Tricolors played friendly games with other teams in June, beating Cape Verde and Nigeria (both 1-0) and drawing with Mexico (0-0). .
