As part of the efforts to achieve new ways to solve the environmental problems plaguing the regions, the Ministry of Environment (MENAM) is organizing the 2022 Environmental Science and Technology Meeting, which will be held from July 23 to 26.

This was stated today by the Minister of Environment, Modesto Montoya, who considered that the country needs more scientists to deal with environmental pollution.

“The Ministry of Environment is organizing the Environmental Science and Technology meeting, which will open on Saturday, July 23 at 9:00 am at the San Borja Convention Center,” Montoya explained in a press conference chaired by the Prime Minister. Anibal Torres.

Montoya noted that his portfolio operates four public research institutes dedicated to solving environmental problems that harm the health of Peruvians.

Regarding environmental responsibilities, he commented that on his recent visit to the Moche River Basin, in the La Libertad region, he checked the need to treat that area affected by the tailings left by the Mining Company Kirovelca.

“Sugar cane is watered with this water. It will be necessary to think carefully before consuming it; He insisted on the need for scientists to solve this problem.

Along the same lines, he spoke of the coordinated work done by Peruvian scholars in different regions of the country along with international scholars.

“Peruvian scientists came to see the case of the Repsol spill and other international scientists, with the participation of Peruvian professionals, were in Puno researching the pollution of Lake Titicaca,” he commented.

Montoya explained that given the importance of the event, it will be the President of the Republic who will open it, because “a politician who is convinced of the importance of science and technology, not only in treatment, but also in the generation of knowledge. It allows us to export added value and starts our country to move towards a level of development.”

At another time, he announced the opening of an astronomical observatory in the Arequipa region next August. In addition, in cooperation with a foreign university, a radiophysics antenna will be opened.
