Science fiction was one of the fictional genres that gained an enthusiastic following and readers in Latin America. For this reason, the fourth chapter of the talk show “Las Formas del Libro”, led by journalist Raul Cazal, delves into the genre and takes a look at new horizons around it, with the participation of writers Daniel Arella and Wilfredo Machado. .

Great stories allow you to travel between worlds, but science fiction leads to later times that can be possible thanks to advances in scientific and technical development.

In this sense, science fiction was also a whole philosophy that worked to deconstruct the dominant and separate structures of the individual, according to Daniel Arella, author of titles such as: “At the Bottom of Transparency,” “The Androgynous Drunken in el haitón” or “An Anthology of Weeping”; and translator of “Stories of Latin American Science Fiction Pioneers”.

For Wilfredo Machado, science fiction is a way to learn about the world through the generation of new things. “It enriches life, because we invite you to think, to dream and to imagine the events that could happen”; Said the author of “The Night of Prometheus,” “The Book of Animals,” “Poetry of Smoke,” “Diary of a Bird,” “Dark Hearts,” and “The King of the Poor.”

Recommended books

Daniel Ariella recommended reading the works “The Doll’s Shop” and “Anthology, Science – Venezuelan Fiction” by Julio Garmendia; “Amazing Stories” by Hugo Greenback, where the term science fiction was first christened, and “La Galera de Tiberio” by Enrique Bernardo Nunez.

He also proposed a series of titles illustrating the importance of the genre, among them the novel “La Invention de Morel” by Adolfo Bioy Casares; “Eridano, awakening Meganet”; “Exact copy”; “anomaly”; “Trilogy” by Ronald Delgado; by Ricardo Biglia “Nocturnal White” and finally “The Return of Eva” published in 1933. Machado added reading “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury. CC / EMPG
