At a press conference held this morning, Wednesday, Department of Consumer Affairs (DACO) Virtuosity, a company that sells and installs renewable energy systems that provides services without the license required under the Contractor Registration Act, has announced.

The approved measures include a cease and desist order for the company to stop providing services until it manages the license and the corresponding bond. He was also fined $57,400 for acting without such legal requirements.

“We are facing a pattern of non-compliance by this company that justifies the activation of the full authority of the agency, in order to ensure that in a timely manner, every consumer who can be affected by its actions, can rely on treatment,” explained Aidan Rivera Rodriguez, DACO Secretary.

The official stated that so far in 2021, 21 complaints against finesse have been filed in the various regional offices of DACO.

We recommend the following:

The most frequent claim by consumers is that less amount of contracted equipment has been received.

“Given the type of allegations that have been included in the complaints presented to our administrative forum, other actions taken against Virtue include referral to the Department of Justice, as well as an administrative order ensuring prompt processing of any active complaint that may exist against this company,” Rivera detailed.

The Secretary urged that every person, natural or legal, qualified as a contractor as defined by applicable law and regulations, obtain the corresponding license and bond.

“We know that renewable energy can be a very good thing and is to influence this type of service, but to make sure that those who provide it do not violate the rights of consumers and abide by all the safeguards recognized by our ordinance so that the alternative is in Puerto Rico. Our purpose is not,” he emphasized Administrator.

Rivera urged consumers to first check whether the company has an active license before purchasing renewable energy installation systems.

“Currently, there are 37 contractors registered with DACO that provide this type of service,” he said.
