The Yankees are poised to exceed $300 million in payroll with Soto and Yamamoto

The New York Yankees are tasked with rebuilding themselves in the 2024 Major League campaign after a recent loss, so they will spare no expense in building the best team possible to compete for a World Series championship.

SNY’s Andy Martino revealed the Yankees are poised to surpass $300 million in payroll for the first time since trading with the San Diego Padres for Juan Soto and signing Japanese ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto to a $200 million contract.

Soto plans to earn $30 million in arbitration in his final year before negotiating a $400 or $500 million contract extension as a free agent in 2025.

Yamamoto, for his part, wants a long contract that would earn him the highest salary for his country in the history of the majors.

Manager Aaron Boone has already praised Soto, and while he may not be economical, his acquisition will have a direct impact on the team’s performance in the future.

“He’s an offensive machine. He’s good at getting on base and for power. He’s the centerpiece of a championship team for his age. He’s one of the best players in baseball. He’s a great player.”Boone said at the winter meetings.

“Juan is in another team, but everyone knows he’s a fantastic player. We’ll see what happens. He’s special.”he added.
