Monty Johnson

We have some very sad news to report today. Pawnee County Undersheriff Monty Johnson was killed in a head-on crash while on duty early this morning.

Officials say Johnson was on Highway 18 south of Pawnee when another driver crossed the center line and hit him head on. The crash and the other driver’s condition are under investigation by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Johnson was a longtime member of the PCSO and has lived in Pawnee County his whole life, with his family settling near Terlton before statehood. He was the son of the late Tally and Bessie Johnson.

Our thoughts are with Monty’s wife, Anita, their children, the extended Johnson family, friends and PCSO employees as they mourn.

Johnson was universally loved by his co-workers. Sadly, this makes the second deputy tragically lost for the department in only a month. Janice Price, who worked through six administrations, passed away Jan. 14 after a short battle with cancer.
