State agents are investigating a suspicious fire and death southwest of Cleveland.

Sources say investigators also are looking at a person of interest in connection.

The Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office told the American last week deputies were called to a rural location on County Road 36520, west of Terlton Road, where there had been a fire days prior.

According to Sheriff Mike Waters, human remains were found in the burned mobile home when deputies arrived.

The fire was put out by the Cleveland Fire Department on June 6. The remains were discovered June 13.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation forensics agents have been processing evidence found at the scene. The matter is being treated as a suspicious death, and possibly could turn into a homicide investigation, Waters said.

The American has confirmed the name of the deceased -- a male senior citizen -- but we are not reporting it until it is released by investigators.

We will bring you more information as we can report it.
